Urgency. How is this word defined for you?
Most people never consciously define this word, and, yet, it’s this word that rules them.
Constantly REACTING to the urgent demands of life.
An email.
A phone call.
A customer request.
A family need.
The IMPORTANT gets forgotten.
Priorities fall into the fire of urgency.
Back when I was the president of an e-commerce start-up, being in fire-fighting mode was my default. I would wake up in a panic at 3 AM to answer a customer service question. I’d freak out when a press release would go out, and double-check, then triple-check my work, panicking over the question - “Were there any typos that I missed?” (Grammar is not my specialty.) I’d race over the hill to Burbank to our Starbucks “emergency” meetings about sales projections in a panic.
I never stopped to question - how is all this fire fighting serving me?
You’re already wearing SOOOOO MANY hats, and all those responsibilities have a responsibility to be responded to.
But what does that actually mean?
Notice the common lingo there -
RESPOND + RESPONSIBLE
“Res” is the Latin prefix meaning ‘thing’ or ‘matter.’ It is the source of our reality, something which is 'thingish' or 'material', not just 'thinkish.’
It’s referring to something that is happening in REALITY.
“-pon-” comes from Latin, where it has the meaning "put, place or set '' It is related to the root -pos-.
Together with responding and what you are responsible for is something that gets put in place or set.
Notice how “RIGHT NOW” is nowhere in there. Nor is how YOU are required to respond.
A boundary is a response.
The amount of urgency you put on your response and your responsibilities is therefore like all constructs that have to do with time…
Made up.
IT’S A BELIEF.
You are both making up and reinforcing the rules as you go.
The question is…
Are your “rules” for operating in a state of urgency serving you or holding you back from creating what you were meant to create in this world?
Your choice.
In this episode of Queen TV, I share the top three fears I’ve seen ensnare high achievers and entrepreneurs in the dungeon of doubt, keeping you from doing your purpose work.
(HINT: it’s anything that keeps you stuck in the groundhog day of “urgent” tasks but not creating enough time for those projects and priorities that really matter to your Soul.)
What do you need to put in place to keep you on your throne?
Remember, your reign is now.
