Having Confidence is NOT Required to Start Your Business
There is so much emphasis placed on “having confidence.” these days. It seems like everyone wants to know how to “have confidence”.
Where’d my confidence go?
If I only was confident, then I’d [GO AHEAD AND FILL IN THE BLANK]
As if it could just magically disappear or arrive in your life.
When I first started my business I was NOT confident. In fact, I doubted myself every step of the way, so much so, I made literally ZERO dollars for the first 1.5 years.
Why?
Because I was constantly WAITING for the magical day to be confident THEN have everything fall into place.
Here’s the thing…
Confidence is NEVER the cause.
It is never the catalyst.
It is never the spark of creation.
COURAGE is.
Confidence is the EFFECT of taking daily, regular courageous action.
Confidence is a RESULT, not a requirement to get started.
When you put the emphasis on confidence, it’s like putting the emphasis on the wrong syllable of a word - it makes the word not come out right, it feels funny, and it doesn’t sound good - thus making you feel less confident about saying that word.
Kinda like how I feel about saying the word - seriously, don’t make me. Or do. Maybe then I’ll be more confident in saying it.
Taking courageous ACTION is what creates confidence within you.
IF YOU NEVER DO THINGS THAT SCARE YOU, PUSH THE EDGES OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE, THEN YOU WILL BE STUCK LACKING CONFIDENCE.
If you never take action - even just a small step - that is BEYOND what you think you’re capable of, you will stay trapped in the dungeon of doubt.
I had to stop WAITING to “have confidence” and instead had to BE COURAGEOUS.
Because it NEVER starts with what you have.
What you HAVE is a byproduct, a result of who you BE.
What started to move the needle for me in my business as I started to push myself to BE COURAGEOUS.
By BEING courageous that means I started DOING new actions:
I hired a coach.
I signed up for a $5000 coaching program (when I was already $35K in debt).
I raised my prices from $25/hour to $250/hour.
I started asking for sales.
All of those actions scared the crap out of me.
Those actions were me translating my BEING COURAGEOUS into my DOING COURAGEOUS ACTION.
Be.
Do.
Have.
That’s the order.
BE Courageous > DO Courageous Actions > HAVE Confidence
Had I said I was courageous and then chosen some other form of action…
Like twiddling my thumbs...
Or doing more sporadic random posting on social media (with no calls to action)...
Or signing up for any new free webinar and free coaching call to learn more...
Or writing furious affirmations about how “I AM COURAGEOUS”...
Those wouldn’t have translated into me having the confidence (and the RESULTS of the multi-six-figure business and life I have today.)
Because those would not have been me LIVING courageously.
Because those would not be me BACKING MY BELIEF of me BEING COURAGEOUS with ACTION.
Confidence comes from you backing your BELIEF with courageous action.
I see this all the time on consult calls when a consulting client says they really, REALLY want to sign up so they can BE more confident, so they can have new results in their business…
And they say they experienced value and see the vision and the clear steps they can take to get new results. (You always must make sure of that.)
And they know that this next step (aka signing up for private coaching) is taking that leap of faith, into new results, new actions, new BELIEF in themselves.
But then…
They don't.
That action of NOT SIGNING UP for what your SOUL says you should do, is you backing the beliefs of doubt in yourself.
NON-ACTION > REINFORCES BELIEF > Re-Inforces Who You BE
When your soul is CRYING OUT - “OMG yes, dear, please sign up, buy this, jump in on this…
And then you don’t...
Well, that’s just reinforcing the BELIEF of who you BE-LIEVE yourself to BE - not confident.
Not trusting yourself in making the right decisions.
Not believing in yourself or your business, or all of it.
AND IT’S TRANSLATING INTO YOU NOT HAVING CONFIDENCE BECAUSE YOU JUST PROVED TO YOURSELF (BY ACTING FROM FEAR AND SAYING “NO” TO YOUR SOUL” THAT YOU’RE NOT COURAGEOUS.
Thus the vicious cycle of seeking confidence repeats and repeats and repeats.
Because…
It’s not about you “having confidence.”
It’s about you being COURAGEOUS ENOUGH to take the COURAGEOUS ACTIONS that shape and make you “have confidence.”
Remember, your reign is now.
P.S. Courage is required to build any business - not confidence. Courage is also required to have CLARITY to focus on who the RIGHT people will be for your business. Courage is also required to SELL to the right people to make money in your business.
...Again, not confidence.
