Come New Year’s day, for most people - if they’re not too hungover - they’ll set a list of intentions for their goals.
Lose X amount of pounds.
Be a better parent.
Go to the gym X
Make X amount of money this year.
Problem is - they’re lacking depth.
There is no SOUL in most people’s goals.
There’s a good-hearted intention. There’s a conscious concept.
But that intention is battling YEARS of subconscious programming all providing a highlight reel of all the reasons why you haven’t been able to achieve, receive of becoming the person who has those goals, habits, things…NOW.
And conscious concepts, no matter how good-hearted your intentions are, require brute willpower.
You can never change who you BE by force alone.
The doing is a byproduct of who you are being.
If you’re still being a person who is mired in self-doubt, spinning down the research rabbit hole, looking for some other course, program, thing to complete to give you a sense of satisfaction, but never actually following through with altering the CORE of who you are - then your goal list in 2023, 2024, 2025…2030 will continue to be the same, year after year.
You see it all the time at the gym.
The average goal - losing weight - is very apparent in January. But give it a few weeks…and the people who work out are not a part of their core identity will no longer be there.
They’ll get tired.
They’ll make excuses.
They’ll give themselves perfectly logical reasons like…
I’m tired.
My muscles need time to relax.
I’ve been working really hard this week, I deserve a break.
Science Says I shouldn’t exercise every day because [SCIENCY-OPINION].
And come February, they’ll be back to BEING who they have always been.
The change begins with BEING the person who already does those things -
Your identity of who you have been - the person who doesn’t currently have/do the things you want to do/have - MUST die.
Like I said in my TEDx Talk,
You will die 1000 times if you are to achieve your full potential.
Some part of who you have been - the habits, beliefs, thoughts, feelings - that you have conditioned on repeat day in and day out, must die in order to be reborn into the person who naturally, easily, and effortlessly ALREADY lives your goals.
Having been blessed to work with high achievers for the past five years, I’ve also noticed they aren’t waiting till January 1 to give themselves permission to lean into their dreams.
We’ve been working on them becoming the person who already has their 2022 goals NOW.
They choose to change TODAY. Right now.
They aren’t stumbling into the new year with a new set of intentions, thinking about all the things they DIDN’T do this past year. They are locking it in now, so that come New Year’s day - even if they’ve celebrated a little too much - they aren’t stumbling and fumbling their way through their goals. They aren’t even making lists of things “to do.”
They are shifting who they are at their core, transforming their stories, their bodies, their habits, their patterns NOW.
Because, after all, when you really think about it. November 21 is just as arbitrary a date as January 1, or March 23, or September 14, isn’t it?
So come 2022 they will already BE the person who is operating as if they’ve already achieved their goals.
