After I cleaned up my mindset, there are only a few reality shows I will watch now - Queer Eye, Shark Tank, and Project Runway. I have always loved the creativity of high fashion.
And sure, hasn’t every princess ALSO dreamed of becoming a runway model?
On Project Runway, whenever the pressure is on and the contestants are trying to figure out creating an outfit, there’s always a time when Tim Gunn pops into the workroom to advise and council - basically, he’s like their fashion coach.
His signature line is this…
“Make it work.”
Make it into reality.
Or as my client, who just went from $25K months to $50K months says, “Just fucking do it.”
And that’s exactly it.
That’s exactly why my client’s income doubled while working together.
He just fucking did the work.
He made it work.
In fact, even if you do, something will invariably throw you off that “plan” so you have to innovate.
You make it up as you go - you adapt, pivot, according to what is thrown at you.
For example, in my business, we don’t have customer issues.
We have customer innovations.
We make mistakes EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.
Of course, we try not to - but there are broken links sometimes, a process issue, scheduling issues, and we find new ways to make our products and services better every single day.
Think about it -
Innovation comes from discomfort.
We’ve seen that on a global scale with industries having to radically shift and change.
Industries that are usually so slow to change - education, theater, real estate - have had to pivot within months to figure out a way to survive.
Heck, even Yale went virtual.
It’s uncomfortable homeschooling your kids while working - but you find a way to adapt. Maybe you enroll your partner more in supporting you and he does the homeschooling. Maybe you start waking up earlier to get those precious morning hours of flow work done.
You adapt.
It’s uncomfortable being on lockdown in your studio apartment - but you find a way to adapt. Maybe you start taking walks outside around the neighborhood. Maybe you block off your “work” area from your “living area.” Maybe you get into the practice of having virtual luncheons with your college girlfriends who you used to never see or eat with unless they were in town once every odd year.
It’s uncomfortable not being able to travel for vacation - but you find a way to adapt. Maybe, like one of my clients, you book an Airbnb getaway in a neighboring town in the mountains. Maybe, like another one of my clients, you turn your backyard into “Hawaii” and pull out the Halloween leis, Youtube videos of luaus, and throw on a grass skirt and learn how to hula.
As a species, humans are adaptation machines.
We learn to make it work.
This process only sucks when you’re resistant to change.
The only limit is a lack of imagination to what CAN be possible if you are just willing to see things differently.
Start imagining what is possible and then…
Make it work.
Remember, your reign is now.
P.S. I know during these elections it can feel challenging to make things work - when massive emotions, opinions, and division can seem so apparent in our world right now.
But, remember, YOU have the power over having a “make it work” attitude.
YOU are centered on your vision.
And YOU are resilient and prepare AF, mentally and emotionally, to make it work.
