Put the journal down. Put the course on pause. STOP...wait! Before you sign up for that next certification program.
And check yo’self.
Are you doing these...things...because you believe you “have to” do them or are “supposed to” do them or “should” do them to be successful?
This is the difference between taking ALIGNED action.
And following the rules.
(I mean, didn’t you start building your business to NOT follow other people’s rules? Or is that just me?)
Having coached good-hearted, high-achieving, visionary leaders and entrepreneurs for the past 5 years, I have seen more entrepreneurs WILLINGLY give their souls over to the latest “guru” or “marketing strategy” just because someone positioned themselves strong enough to be in the space where…get this…
THEY make you believe THEY have the answer.
Heck, maybe even YOU believe that THEY have the answer...instead of YOU.
In your soul.
...Even when gurus say it won’t.
When I first started my business back in 2016, doing 20-minute “strategy” calls was all the rage in the coaching industry. (Ahem...shall we just call them what they are...a SALES call.)
Some gurus still preach this practice.
You jump on a call for 20 minutes and then are sold some $5000+ program. Sometimes it works.
If you’ve ever been on the receiving end, it can feel quite exhausting.
There you are being asked all these questions about YOU.
Makes you feel good, right? Someone is actually caring to take the time to get to know you.
And then, they regurgitate word for word everything that you said you want, dream, desire, and fear back to you in a formulaic fear that IF you don’t sign up with them NOW...NOW! NOW!! Then, you’ll never ACHIEVE what it is you desire.
“Do it for Delcan,” one even told me back in 2016.
Um. No. Don’t use my son as a sales tool - that’s why people think sales is sleazy.
Ew. Gross.
I did the 20-minute calls for a while and got conversions - 20-30%. Not bad. And quite typical for industry standards.
But they just still felt kind of gross to me.
My coach in 2017 gave me this gem of advice, “You just need to do more. Sales is a numbers game, after all.”
And sure, I know it is.
So there I was doing more, MORE, MOOOOOOOOREEE!!!
And still 20-30% conversion.
My highly respected coach in 2018 gave me this sweet piece of advice, “Just go longer! Instead of 20-minutes, do 60-minutes! Then you’ll get to add value and be of service...and isn’t that the point?”
Sure, yeah.
Except when you have a baby to feed and don’t have the time, patience, or energy to deal with tire-kickers.
So even though my coach is HIGHLY paid for what he does.
Even though he’s one of the leaders in his field.
I looked at these strategies and had to ask…
“Is it ME?”
Or…
“Is it the STRATEGY?”
The truth is: it was BOTH.
It was then that I looked at MY OWN SUCCESS for my path.
Instead of looking “OUT THERE” I looked inward.
I looked to my Pilates business - a business I had successfully owned and operated, at first out of my home, and then in a small private studio in Burbank.
What process did I have in place for enrolling new clients?
That’s when it hit me - GENIUS!
My sales process was a sales process right off the bat.
It wasn’t pretending to be some free conversation.
It wasn’t also attempting to deal with a single injury or issue like weight loss or torn meniscus repair in one free session.
It was honest. Real. Upfront.
It QUALIFIED customers by having them pay for a lower-priced “Intro” session to get them introduced to Pilates, my style, my vibe, and for me to get to know them, their body, what they need, and then to give them the proper “prescription.”
(Aka the package, classes, or workshop that they needed to BEST fit their goals and desires.)
And, typically BECAUSE of its honesty, qualifying factors, it weeded out the people who wanted a magic pill or who just booked a lesson to try to get a date with me...yes, that really happened.
That’s when I had my ah-ha - what if I applied this same strategy to coaching?
Instead of a FREE consult, I’d do a PAID consult and then sell them the “prescription” on the call based on their goals, needs, desires, and ambitions.
Within a month of implementing this strategy, my business went from 20% conversions to 60% conversions for private coaching.
And, that year, with a baby, we grew 389%!
That’s the power of having a PROCESS that is aligned with your SUBCONSCIOUS SUCCESS STRATEGY.
