The Power of Your Queen Team Business Rhapsody

One of my favorite bands of all time is Queen. When we temporarily relocated to Australia, Spike bought me a Freddy Mercury Funko doll (you know those tiny-body, giant-headed, fits in the palm of your hand toys) for my “office” area. 

Maybe it was the sunny-still vibe of another day in Queensland, or the butterflies flying past my windows, or my run past the building named “Rhapsody” in Surfer’s Paradise that morning, but in a moment of deep introspection, I spoke to my Freddy Funko. 

Look, I owned my crazy a long time ago, so this is not too out of the ordinary. I was looking for a connection. I believe everything happens FOR a reason, for our greater learning, growth, and evolution. So all of these things, all of these signs, I just could not ignore.

“What is it about Freddy Mercury? About Queen? About Rhapsody?” I mused. 

An official word-nerd, I looked up the definition.

Rhapsody /ˈrapsədi/

1.  an effusively enthusiastic or ecstatic expression of feeling.

2. a free instrumental composition in one extended movement, typically one that is emotional in character.

3. (in ancient Greece) an epic poem, or part of a poem, of a suitable length for recitation at one time.

As I pondered the film, Freddy, Queen, and the rhapsody we are creating here in Queensland, I came to the realization of this…

A RHAPSODY IS FAR MORE FUN WITH A TEAM. 

Think about it, Freddy Mercury went solo and, no offense to the god of vocal ranges, but it frankly sucked. 

Freddy Mercury became Freddy Mercury because of the TEAM of Queen. 

Together they created Bohemian Rhapsody - one of the greatest songs of all time, that defied all odds for success, and yet lives in history as a revolutionary tune. 

How often as creators, business owners, entrepreneurs, leaders, do we try to go at it alone? 

Whether we do it to “prove” our strength, smarts, or capability, or just out of a desperate desire to control things, it is in this belief that keeps us capped at our capacity. 

JUST TAKE FREDDY. 

Look, your team isn’t just people you hire or the people with whom you’ve been deigned to work with side by side. 

Your team is the clients and customers you lead in your programs and services. 

Your team is the people in your community who you are speaking to when you put your message out there in the world.

Your team is the family you surround yourself with who offers support and cheerlead you onto greatness is your team.

Your team are your coaches, masterminds, and mentors who challenge you to rise higher and faster than you would on your own is your team.

Your team is the believers in your dream.

Your team are your fans. 

Your team is even the other “competitors” in your industry because they challenge you to grow stronger.

Your team is the funnels and structures of automation that allow you greater time freedom.

Your team is the people cheering you on, championing you, challenging you, sharing vulnerability, openly and creatively providing solutions are your team.

Your team is your kids.

Your team is the industry or the “sport” you play in. 

Your team is your romantic partner who you lean on when you need a rest from playing the lead.

YOU MAY BE LIKE FREDDY AND BE THE TEAM CAPTAIN, BUT WITHOUT THE TEAM, YOU’RE JUST A CAPTAIN IN ONE HELLUVA LONELY BOAT. 

It’s going to take a lot longer to row across the ocean of challenges to your destination of freedom when it’s just you in a dingy if you get there at all.

One of the most common things I’ve noticed that separates the successful leaders from the struggling solopreneurs, is their reliance, recognition, and awareness of the team that they are leading. 

The lone wolf will always be alone in the prison of trading dollars for hours or you’re at the mercy of someone else paying you. 

I regularly ask my clients, “Who are you leading? Who are you mentoring?”

Because when you’re mentoring someone, when you have the mindset of a role model, you show up differently. You are less prone to self-sabotage because you’re in a mindset of service. 

When you have a TEAM, whether it’s your family, your friendships, your clients, the people in your industry the people you’ve hired in your business, you have a greater sense of responsibility to SHOW TF UP,  REGARDLESS of how you feel.
