The three fears of entrepreneurs

Watch out, because I’ve got a bone to pick (and yeah, it’s because I picked it raw and real in the first 1.5 years in my business.)

You see, back then I was doing all the things - blogging, photoshoot, website design, creating products (that no one wanted), investing in tech, like, everything...

Except for making money.

My husband even had a joke back then, that I couldn’t get 15 minutes into a Netflix show without whipping open my computer and getting to work.

Fast forward till now...

And I just finished watching 2 glorious hours of Ancient Aliens...sans computer, and sans baby.

I enjoyed every single second of it. No laptop. No phone. No kiddo even (he was in school.)

Here’s the thing...

FEAR WILL HOLD YOU CAPTIVE.
It will keep you stuck in the easy.

It will keep you trapped in the Groundhog Day of the pervasive world for work’s sake.

It will keep you trapped in fire fighting mode, when, really, the fire is just the REAL stuff you know you SHOULD be doing that’s burning a hole in your mind.

Like sales.

Or creation.

Or vision.

Typically, having coached 5, 6, and 7-figure entrepreneurs for the past 4 years, I’ve found that fear manifests into pretty much just those three things.

You can have ease in your business but CHOOSING to do so will require COURAGE.

IT’S YOUR COURAGE TO CREATE THE VERY THINGS THAT SCARE YOU - PROCESSES, COURSES, OFFERS TO SELL - THAT WILL GENERATE MORE INCOME.
It’s your courage to focus beyond your own fears (that, let’s be honest, are straight out of your ego) and instead focus on VISION and the purpose and the mission that you will serve with that vision.

NO.1 - FEAR OF SELLING

The fear of money, the fear of rejection, the fear of not being deserving/worthy/enough of that money, the conditioning and “rules” and meanings that you have placed on what money means to you - all of that goes into the fear of selling.

To course correct that Titanic mistake in your business, ask yourself...

How is someone buying your products and services of the HIGHEST and BEST good for them?

Selling can be of massive service. Imagine someone having the cure for cancer, and then being too wrapped up in their own “money stuff” to be selling it to the world. What would you think of that person? 

You’d probably think that they’re acting like selfish brats and should get over themselves and help the people who are literally dying for their products and services. 

Now, sure, you can reason that your product or service doesn’t cure cancer, but isn’t pain just as deep as cancer and possibly just as terminal?

If your product, your service, your knowledge can save someone by bringing them joy, pleasure, purpose, connection, love, or a feeling of contribution, then it is your DUTY to sell to them as an entrepreneur.

No.2  - Fear of Creating

This usually manifests as fighting fires, busying yourself with lots of “stuff” to do in your business, emails, obsessive organization (where my fellow Virgo’s at 🙋🏽‍♀️), even planning but with very little execution.

Deeper down typically there is a deep-seated belief that what you are creating “won’t be good enough” - ah, yes, that old belief. 

It can be a fear of creating a new offer, creating a new price point for your services, creating a new course, creating a book, creating a partnership.

You’ll know this because your ego will come up with all the reasons (aka perfectly logical justifications) to stay right where you are...

“But there’s so much to do right now, I’ll get it done tomorrow.”

“But they’re so much farther ahead of me, I’ll reach out to them when my following is bigger.”

“But the old price was working so well, I’ll raise my prices when I have a full roster of 10 clients.”

First of all, let me say, all of these excuses are completely valid. You’re 100% right.

And you’ll stay 100% stuck if you don’t make a change now.

No.3 - Fear of Visioning

This usually manifests again in busywork - in being caught up in the urgent, but not so focused on the important. And it manifests in a fear of letting go of the control you currently have. 

You’ll know when you’re living with vision when you’re sacrificing short-term pain for long-term gain, versus short-term gain, versus long-term pain, which is what the ego loves. 

The more income you make, the MORE time (not less) you actually need to be spending working ON your business instead of IN your business. But what does that mean?

It means creating the SYSTEMS that support your vision.

SYSTEMS ALLOW YOU TO REMOVE YOURSELF FROM BEING “NEEDED” BY YOUR BUSINESS.

And for entrepreneurs who have a deep desire for validation, this is a hard one to let go of the reigns. 

The question becomes…

Who needs your vision more than you need your validation? 

When you put the work beyond YOU and onto those who you need to serve, it changes the game from being one played by fear to one played by faith.
