“I can barely sit still for 5 minutes.” I used to pride myself on always doing. DOING. DOING. DOING. Where my high achievers at, yo!
Sitting still was NOT my jam.
Give me music blasting in my ears and 30-minutes at a steady clip of 6.0 miles per hour and I was golden. Moving meditations I could do. Running, pilates, pole dancing, anything that allowed my body to just release and express and let go.
But...
Being alone and quiet in my head used to be a dangerous place for me to rest in because I wasn’t at rest.
I wasn’t at peace with myself. I warred with the light and the darkness.
I judged the negative comments and criticism with more judgments and criticism. “I shouldn’t be feeling [INSERT WHATEVER NEGATIVE EMOTION OR CRAPPY THOUGHT].” And down I would spiral.
When I was 17, struggling through bulimia, major depression, perfectionism, and past trauma. I was a classic type-A, high achiever, never feeling good enough, and painfully forcing being perfect at #allthethings, many of which I didn’t want to do, didn’t have to do, and weren’t in my genius zone. I constantly berated myself with comparison, judging myself against my own unrealistic, super-human standards.
It was then that my mom said four words that stuck with me forever, “Be kind to yourself.”
Train your brain to accept ALL parts of you, including the negative (she’s there for a reason). When you face her with judgment, you create resistance, conflict, defensiveness. When instead you treat her with kindness, compassion, THAT aikidos the crap out of her punches, and instead allows her to pass through and on. So instead of fighting her, she gives you the sign you needed - the tool, the hint, the signal that you FUCKING CARE ABOUT SOMETHING (because that’s what negative feelings indicate) - and then she mosies on her merry way.
This is why I practice Transcendental Meditation π§πΌβοΈIt’s been a total GAMECHANGER to the amount of presence, intention, engagement, and energy that I bring to every role in my life - mom, wife, business owner, coach, writer - it allows the critics, comments, and judgments to release, as stress is supposed to, and liberates consciousness.
It allows me to BE before I DO so that when I do, I am BEING from a different state of consciousness. Albert Einstein said, “You cannot solve a problem with the same consciousness that created it.”
A shift in the consciousness of the world is happening. All those complaints we had about traffic, not spending enough time with our families, working all the time - gone...in mere weeks.
This is the time to choose into the consciousness of the planet - will we continue to buy into fear? Or will we liberate ourselves into the peace and freedom that comes from stripping away all the plagiarized programming, conditioning, self-limiting beliefs, and excuses, and allow for an overflow of abundance to shower us with a collective release?
Meditation, for me, it’s allowed me a daily practice of stillness and silence to recognize and appreciate aaaaalll of the parts of myself and be kind to each and every one of them.
The Golden Rule goes both ways, you know.
