Why Service-Based Entrepreneurs Should Always Be Selling

Uncategorized May 05, 2020

“I don’t want to come off as too salesy.”

My client was struggling with what a lot of solopreneurs struggle with - how much is too much selling? How do you balance messaging and adding value with selling?

Let me ask you this…

“When you go into a coffee shop, do you get mad or upset at the barista for trying to sell you coffee?”

“No…” my client looked at me quizzically.

“Have you ever had a barista say, ‘I’m sorry, I’m not feeling worthy today of selling you a coffee?’”

“No,” she said with a laugh.

I persist, “And even if, let’s say, that did happen, and you were standing in the coffee shop, even just considering purchasing a coffee, even if you weren’t sure what you wanted, and that barista said that to you, you’d possibly even feel a little offended, right? Like, why are you saying you’re “OPEN” then if you’re not going to sell me a dang cup of coffee?’ Right?”

She laughed, “I think this is what you call...a BREAKTHROUGH.”

Ah, food for my soul.

Why Service-Based Entrepreneurs Should Always Be Selling.jpg

In my three years of working with many service-based entrepreneurs, there is the belief - a disconnect really - that somehow, because you are offering services, YOUR services, that you shouldn’t, couldn’t, or...dare I say…”CAN’T” sell your services on a daily basis.

When did you decide that as a business you should turn your sign to “CLOSED” for two...three...four days out of the week to NOT SELL?

It doesn’t matter whether you’re an online business owner or a brick and mortar business mortar, the name of the game is simple…

IF YOUR SIGN SAYS “OPEN” THEN BE FREAKING OPEN, WHICH MEANS, SELL.

There is this myth that I’m going to bust wide open right now in the Influencer space. The “Influencers” who are broke as a joke - meaning they have thousands of followers but are making very little money, is because they don’t have things that they SELL usually on a regular basis.

The “If you build it, they will pay you” belief is BROKEN.

YOU HAVE TO HAVE AN IRRESISTIBLE OFFER OR MULTIPLE IRRESISTIBLE OFFERS THAT YOU SELL ON A REGULAR BASIS….BECAUSE YOU’RE A BUSINESS OWNER.

A business makes money. Cash is its caffeine.

You cannot call yourself a business owner if you do not own a business that is not making money.

If your business is not making money, you are a hobby owner...not a business.

HERE’S WHY YOU MAY NOT BE SELLING OR MAKING MONEY ON A CONSISTENT BASIS IN YOUR BUSINESS:

No.1 - You’re Not Selling/Marketing What You Sell on a DAILY basis

No.2 - You’re Not Clear on WHAT You Sell or WHO to Sell to

No.3 - You’re Not Clear on WHAT PROBLEM You Solve for Your Customer

No.4 - You’re Not Clear on WHAT Business You’re REALLY In

No.5 - A Combination of the Above 4.

Because your business is a business that solves a problem.

Not just the problem for you of bringing in income, but your business solves a greater problem, a deeper NEED, for humanity.

Maybe it’s a person’s need to have positivity and or connection if you’re a Twitch streamer, like one of my Revolutionary Empire Builders.

Maybe it’s a person’s need to have a home to raise their daughter in, if you’re a realtor, like one of my Revolutionary Empire Builders.

Maybe it’s a person’s need to get out of their own way if you’re a coach, like several of my Revolutionary Empire Builders.

Maybe it’s a person’s need to feel significant if you sell certifications and courses like one of my Revolutionary Empire Builders.

Maybe it’s a person’s need to feel challenged, if you sell complex embroidery quilting, like one of my Revolutionary Empire Builder clients.

This is why my Revolutionary Empire Builders are consistently making $5K, $10K, $25K, $50K per month - they have businesses that are ALWAYS SELLING.

If you are building your empire, you are SELLING your products and services on a regular, DAILY basis....just like a coffee shop sells its products and services on a daily basis.

Be like a coffee shop.

Always be selling.

REMEMBER, YOUR REIGN IS NOW.
